The Beaches:
There are several beaches in the municipality of Velsen available. Depending on your needs, you can choose.
•IJmuiden aan Zee has a spacious, wide beach with four pavilions that are open year round. Furthermore, besides the marina there are several more facilities at the Kennemer Boulevard.
•IJmuiderslag is a quiet, wide beach with a beach pavilion (all year round). Here, dogs are allowed throughout the year.
•Strand Noordpier is located immediately north of the North Sea Canal, south of "Wijk aan Zee". It is a unique place for wind and water sports, because of the special wind and wave movement that is caused by the North Pier. There are two summer pavilions and a surf center located. The restaurant near the car park is open all year round.
Nature and Recreation:
in "IJmuiden aan Zee" and the immediate surroundings, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. Besides the particularly wide sandy beaches, the environment has much more to offer.
Kennemer Dunes National Park:
Kennemer Dunes National Park and Heerenduinen belong, with their varied flora and fauna, as one of the most scenic areas of the Netherlands.
The varied nature of dust-dunes, sand dunes, dune lakes, ancient dune-oak forests and landscape style park forests. Here are the best developed and most extensive dune forests of the Netherlands. Through the area, you'll find several hiking and biking trails that connect to the many tourist attractions in the region. (www.npzk.nl). In "De Heerenduinen" is a battery of bunkers located and within them a bunker museum.
Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix
If you love racing, you can visit the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix race circuit in neighboring Zandvoort.
Recreation Board Spaarnwoude:
Between Amsterdam, Haarlem and Velsen is the recreation area "Spaarnwoude". The area is almost 3,000 hectares and is an oasis of greenery, nature and tranquility. Here you are able to do walking, cycling or inline skating, enjoy the typical Dutch peat meadow area and discover the many monuments.

"IJmuiden aan Zee" has many years been nationally and internationally renowned for its migratory birds. Around the lake with adjacent reed beds and dunes, the beach immediately south of the South Pier and the pier itself is one of the best birdwatching areas in the Netherlands.
